The email, sent by a senior vice‑president of Amazon Web Services, stated that impacted colleagues had been notified of organisational changes.
The subject line mentioned “Project Dawn” and indicated the memo had been cancelled, suggesting the message was recalled after distribution. The communication referenced a post by Amazon’s HR chief Beth Galetti and highlighted the difficulty of such decisions.
As per report, Amazon plans to announce further layoffs across its corporate workforce later this week. The cloud computing unit and the retail stores division are among the areas likely to be affected.
In October, the company announced a reduction of 14,000 corporate roles and indicated additional cuts could continue into 2026.

On the same day, Amazon revealed a reorganisation of its grocery segment, closing Fresh supermarkets and Go convenience stores to focus on Whole Foods and online delivery.
