As per the news reports, China is focusing on launching a new employment visa (K-Visa) designed to make the country a more attractive destination for global talent.

This move comes after US President Donald Trump decided to impose a hefty $100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications, a policy that affects Indian and Chinese professionals the most.

US Decision on H-1B Visas

As per the news reports, the USA’s one-time fee for each H-1B application directly impacts the technology and research community. Indians account for nearly 71% of H-1B holders (over 280,000), while Chinese professionals make up around 11.7% (more than 46,600).

China’s New K-Visa

As per the news reports, from October 1, China will introduce the K-Visa, approved by the State Council and signed by Premier Li Qiang. Key features include:

  • Targeted at young professionals in science and technology
  • No requirement for a domestic employer invitation
  • Multiple entry options, longer validity, and extended stays
  • Eligibility tied to criteria set by Chinese authorities

K-Visa holders can engage in scientific and technological activities, cultural exchanges, entrepreneurship, and education-related initiatives.

Part of Broader Visa Reforms

The K-Visa joins 12 existing ordinary visa categories. China has also expanded visa-free entry for tourists from over 40 countries and continues to run initiatives like the Talented Young Scientist Programme and the Outstanding Young Scientists (Overseas) Fund Project. Universities are further boosting recruitment through competitive pay and research support.
