The Central Government has implemented the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB-G RAM G) from 1 July 2026, replacing MGNREGA with a revised rural employment framework, as per news reports.
The new law raises the national average daily wage to ₹327.4 from ₹298.8, an average increase of ₹28.6 per day, or more than 10%, while extending the annual employment guarantee.
According to PTI news, the Act introduces a minimum interim wage floor of ₹300 per day, ensuring that no beneficiary receives wages below this level. Before the revision, several states had notified wages below ₹300, with the lowest daily wage at ₹241.
It also expands the legal employment guarantee for eligible rural households from 100 days under MGNREGA to 125 days annually. The revised wage rates apply across 34 States, Union Territories and notified wage regions.
The Centre said 21 states and administrative regions have been brought up to the new ₹300 wage floor. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam are expected to record wage increases of 15% to 25%, while Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have received the highest revisions of around 24.5%.
Under the revised structure, Haryana will offer ₹409 per day, Goa ₹406, Kerala ₹401, and high-altitude gram panchayats in Sikkim ₹450.
To support implementation, the Centre has made an interim allocation of ₹95,692.31 crore for uninterrupted execution of works and timely wage payments.
The Ministry of Rural Development said existing e-KYC verified MGNREGA job cards will remain valid until beneficiaries receive Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards.
Gram panchayats will continue implementing works related to natural resource management, water conservation, agriculture, rural infrastructure and women's empowerment.
The national launch is scheduled for 2 July at Mukkavaripalle village, Obulavaripalle mandal, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, along with card distribution and awareness campaigns.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, 29 States and Union Territories have made budgetary allocations, while 24 states have notified their respective VB-GRAM G schemes.
As per news reports, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Rural Development Minister, said the initiative aims to ensure "every eligible rural worker has access to employment whenever required" and described the rollout as "a milestone" in the vision of a developed India.
