Two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, built by BEML, will soon launch with top speeds of 180 kmph, offering faster and more comfortable overnight journeys.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed that India will soon see the launch of two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, marking a new milestone in overnight rail travel. With high-speed capability and modern amenities, these trains are expected to redefine passenger experience on long-distance routes.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains: Ready for Launch

Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Mr. Vaishnaw said that the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train has completed all trial runs, while the second is expected to be ready by the middle of next month. Both trains will be launched together to ensure seamless and regular overnight services.

Built for Comfort and Speed

Manufactured by BEML using Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology, each Vande Bharat Sleeper train will feature 16 coaches divided into AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier categories. With the capacity to carry 1,128 passengers and a top speed of 180 kmph, the service will rank among India’s fastest and most comfortable overnight trains.

Special Trains for Festive Season

Alongside the sleeper train announcement, the Railway Minister revealed that the Indian Railways will operate 12,000 special trains between October 1 and November 15 to cater to festive rush during Diwali and Chhath. Out of these, 10,000 trains have already been scheduled, and 150 unreserved trains will remain on standby to handle peak demand.

Railway Projects in Punjab

Mr. Vaishnaw, along with Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, also briefed reporters on ongoing railway projects in Punjab. Notably, the 18-kilometre Rajpura-Mohali line will soon provide the shortest connection between Mohali and Chandigarh via the Ambala-Amritsar main line, enhancing regional connectivity.

Conclusion

The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsrepresent a significant leap forward in India’s rail modernization efforts, blending speed, comfort, and capacity for overnight travel. Coupled with the rollout of 12,000 festive special trains and new regional projects, Indian Railways is working to meet rising passenger demand while expanding modern infrastructure across the country.
