As per the news reports, the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) has drawn investments of nearly ₹34,000 crore. The focus is on building local capacity in military equipment and aerospace production under the Make in India programme.
The UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which is overseeing the project, has so far allotted 1,000 hectares of land to 62 companies. In total, it has acquired over 2,000 hectares for the corridor spread across 6 locations in the state.
Some of the firms investing in UPDIC include BrahMos Aerospace, Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, Bharat Dynamics, Global Engineers, Ancor Research Labs, NextStrat Tech Vision, and Adhunik Material and Sciences.
BrahMos Aerospace has set up a unit in Lucknow. It is a joint venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPOM, focused on supersonic missile development. Adani Defence has started operations at its ₹1,500 crore ammunition plant in Kanpur.
In Aligarh, Amitec Electronics has invested ₹330 crore to manufacture electronic warfare systems and satellite technology. Lucknow has also become a centre for advanced missile systems, with Aerolloy Technologies beginning titanium casting work after putting in ₹320 crore.
The UPDIC project was launched in 2018 to reduce reliance on imports and boost self-reliance in defence production. It covers 6 nodes: Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra and Chitrakoot.
At the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the state’s role in strengthening India’s defence manufacturing sector.
