American semiconductor equipment company KLA Corporation has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a large global R&D and innovation campus in Chennai, marking a significant boost to the state’s semiconductor ecosystem, as per news reports. 

Investment And Campus Plan 

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa said the company will invest $400 million (about ₹3,600 crore) for the proposed facility. The planned campus will come up in Chennai and is designed as a global research and innovation hub for semiconductor technologies. 

The project will be developed on a proposed 12-acre site and may scale up to around 1.5 million sq ft of built-up space over time. The facility will focus on advanced research areas including high-performance computing, process control engineering software and AI-led semiconductor solutions. 

The minister said the project is expected to generate up to 4,000 high-skilled jobs, strengthening the state’s deep-tech employment base. 

Government Statement and Ecosystem Push 

Sharing the announcement, Rajaa said, “KLA which is one of the BIG 3 in Semiconductor manufacturing design and R&D, has today signed an MoU with @Guidance_TN to invest $400 million (about Rs. 3,600 crore), to establish its global R&D and Innovation Campus in Chennai!” 

He further noted that the state is steadily moving up the electronics and semiconductor value chain.
