The Government of Uttar Pradesh and the United Kingdom have signed an agreement to provide fully funded Chevening scholarships for students from the state, as per the news reports. The announcement was made in Lucknow during the British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron’s, meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Under the agreement, 5 students from Uttar Pradesh will be selected each year for the next 3 years. The scholarships will cover all major expenses, including tuition fees, living allowance, travel costs, and visa charges. This is the first direct collaboration between Uttar Pradesh and the UK under the Chevening programme.
The Chevening scholarship provides financial support for postgraduate education in the United Kingdom. Apart from tuition and living costs, it also includes allowances for travel and other academic needs.
Selected students will have the opportunity to pursue master’s level courses at recognised universities across the UK.
As per news reports, Cameron said, “It’s wonderful to be here in Lucknow today to sign with the Chief Minister the agreement on the new Chevening scholarships which we’re announcing together between the United Kingdom and Uttar Pradesh. This will give the opportunity for five students every year for the next three years to go to the UK on a fully funded scholarship, which is part of the fantastic and growing relationship between the United Kingdom and India.”
She also noted that the scholarship comes at a time when India and the UK are expanding cooperation through trade agreements and joint initiatives such as Vision 35.
The Chevening Scholarship is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, along with partner organisations. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree, apply to three eligible master’s courses in the UK, and secure an unconditional offer from at least one institution to qualify.
