Uber has expanded its intercity network to over 3,000 routes across India. This is a 50% increase from the 2,000 routes available at the end of 2024, as per news reports. The company aims to reach 4,500 routes by the end of 2025. The expansion is part of Uber’s intercity push across key city pairs.

New Pilot: Intercity Motorhomes

A pilot program for Uber Intercity Motorhomes has been introduced for one month, from August 7 to September 6, 2025. The service is limited to trips originating from Delhi-NCR. Bookings will be available through the Uber app under both the Intercity and Reserve options starting August 4, 2025.

Each motorhome is designed for 4 to 5 passengers and comes with a driver and a helper. The vehicles are fitted with a television, a lavatory, a microwave, and a mini refrigerator. This format is intended for longer trips where comfort is prioritised.

Popular Routes and Travel Trends

As per reports, over the past 12 months, Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Agra, Bangalore-Mysore, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara have been among the most travelled intercity routes. Most bookings take place around long weekends and festivals. Peak departure times are either early mornings or between 2 PM and 3 PM.

Reach and Driver Base

Uber currently operates in 125 Indian cities, with a driver network of around 1.4 million. Its services range from bike and auto rides to cars and buses. With the intercity expansion, the company is targeting more coverage across regional routes.

Testing Group Travel Demand

The motorhome pilot will allow Uber to assess demand for small-group travel in longer-distance formats. Based on the response, the company may scale up the offering. The fare for these vehicles will be higher than the existing Uber XL category.

Conclusion

With more intercity routes and a new pilot service, Uber is expanding its presence in the outstation travel segment. The company is focusing on scale and format experimentation to grow its offerings beyond city limits.
