Telangana Government Plans to Launch Ride-Hailing App for Auto Drivers

The Telangana government plans to develop a new ride-hailing app for auto drivers, similar to Uber and Ola, as per The Business Standard report.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the state's IT department will work on the app.
New App for Auto Drivers
The proposed app will be developed by the Telangana IT department. The main aim is to give auto drivers another platform to get passengers without depending only on existing ride-hailing apps.
The government has also agreed to increase auto fares in the state. This will be the first increase in auto fares since 2012.
Rules for Bike Taxis
The government is also looking at rules for bike taxis. Prabhakar said a decision will soon be taken on whether only bikes with yellow number plates should be allowed to carry passengers.
₹1.50 Lakh Help for EV Conversion
Auto drivers in Hyderabad will get ₹1.50 lakh in financial assistance to convert their diesel and petrol autos into electric vehicles. The support will be given for retrofitting the existing autos with an EV system.
Possible ₹12,000 Yearly Support
Prabhakar also said the government will discuss the giving ₹12,000 every year to auto drivers.
He said he will discuss the matter with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other ministers before taking a decision.
