The Tamil Nadu government has signed 2 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi and Bengaluru-based Aequs Group, involving a combined investment of about ₹5,980 crore.

As per PTI reports, the agreements were signed at the Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin and senior officials.

An official statement said the 2 projects together are expected to generate around 8,400 jobs across the semiconductor and aerospace manufacturing sectors.

Aerospace Project in Krishnagiri

Aequs Group has committed ₹4,000 crore to set up an aerospace and defence manufacturing cluster at the SIPCOT-Shoolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district.

The facility will manufacture aircraft engine parts, gearbox components and other precision engineering products.

The project is expected to create employment for about 7,000 people once operations begin, according to the government's release.

Semiconductor Facility in Tiruvallur

NMB Minebea India, a subsidiary of MinebeaMitsumi, will invest ₹1,980 crore to establish a manufacturing and research and development centre in Tiruvallur district. The facility will come up at the Mahindra Origins Industrial Park.

The proposed unit will produce high-value semiconductor components such as insulated-gate bipolar transistors and integrated circuits, along with motors and sensors.

Job Profile and Technical Roles

The semiconductor project is expected to generate around 1,400 jobs. More than 40% of these positions are expected to be for skilled technical staff, including engineering and specialised manufacturing roles.

Reports suggest that the 2 investments cover advanced electronics and aerospace manufacturing, with employment expected across production, engineering and support functions.
