
Tamil Nadu has ascended to the position of India's largest textile exporter, outpacing its traditional competitors, Gujarat and Maharashtra, as per PTI report.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, the state's textile exports reached $7,997.17 million, marking a substantial 29.12% increase over the past 4 years.
According to recent data, Tamil Nadu recorded a significant rise in textile exports, with shipments reaching $7,997.17 million in 2024-25.
This growth is attributed to strategic government initiatives and robust sectoral performance. In 2020-21, the state's textile exports were valued at $6,193 million.
Chief Minister M K Stalin emphasised the effective implementation of policies by the government, which has propelled the state's textile industry to its current preeminent position. Tamil Nadu now contributes 21.84% to India's total textile export value.
Gujarat and Maharashtra, longstanding leaders in textile exports, are now second and third with exports valued at $5,646.01 million and $3,831.29 million, respectively.
This shift reflects the successful execution of growth-focused policies in Tamil Nadu.
The National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade data indicates that textile goods exported from India totalled $36,610 million.
Tamil Nadu's contributions represented a significant share of this national figure, reaffirming its leading role in the sector.
