In a significant step towards women’s empowerment, more than 1.24 crore beneficiaries received ₹5,000 each under the Subhadra Yojana on Saturday, as per news reports. The Meanwhile, the Subhadra portal has also reopened from Saturday to accept fresh applications from eligible women.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, September 17 last year, in Bhubaneswar, the Subhadra Yojana aims to provide financial assistance to women over a five-year period. Eligible women receive a total of ₹50,000, disbursed in two instalments of ₹5,000 each annually, directly credited to their bank accounts.
The state government announced that these instalments would be released on International Women’s Day (March 8) and Rakshabandhan every year.
This schedule reinforces the programme’s goal of empowering women through regular financial aid, promoting greater financial inclusion and supporting their personal and economic growth.
