The Ministry of Law and Justice introduced Nyaya Setu on 1 January 2026 as a WhatsApp-based legal assistance service.
By messaging a dedicated number, citizens can access an AI-enabled chatbot that provides legal information across civil, criminal, corporate and family law.
The service is designed to improve access to legal resources without cost.
Nyaya Setu is a digital legal assistance initiative launched by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The service operates through WhatsApp and aims to make legal information easier to access for citizens across India.
It forms part of the government’s broader effort to support awareness of legal rights and procedures through technology-enabled platforms.
Users can access Nyaya Setu by sending a message on WhatsApp to the number 7217711814, which appears under the name ‘Tele-Law’. After a simple mobile number verification process, users are connected to a chatbot interface that provides legal information and guidance.
The chatbot is designed to handle queries across several legal domains. These include civil disputes, criminal matters, family and matrimonial issues, corporate law queries, and property-related concerns.
The system uses artificial intelligence to interpret user questions and provide simplified responses.
Nyaya Setu operates as a 24/7 service, allowing users to raise legal queries at any time.
The Ministry has stated that the service is free of charge and can be accessed from any location within India, provided the user has WhatsApp connectivity.
Legal professionals note that the platform focuses on improving access to legal information and guiding users through available options.
It does not replace professional legal counsel but helps individuals navigate legal processes and understand basic legal provisions before seeking formal assistance.
Nyaya Setu adds a digital channel for citizens to obtain legal information through a familiar messaging platform. By integrating AI-based assistance with WhatsApp access, the initiative aims to support greater awareness of legal processes and improve reach of legal resources across the country.
