The number of Indians moving overseas is growing fast. OECD data suggests nearly 20 lakh Indians will settle abroad by the end of 2025. This includes 4,300 millionaires and 2 million students. Although the US, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia continue to be top choices, Malaysia is quickly emerging as a strong alternative.

Why Malaysia?

Malaysian visas are now available starting at just ₹11,000, positioning it among the most budget-friendly choices for applicants. Beyond cost, Malaysia’s charm lies in:

  • Skyscrapers of Kuala Lumpur
  • Cultural richness of Penang
  • Natural beauty of Batu Caves

The country offers a balance of modern living and natural escape.

Permanent Residence (PR) Benefits

Indians have the option to apply for Permanent Residence (PR), which enables them to:

  • Live, work, and study in Malaysia without time limits
  • Access public healthcare and education
  • Enjoy local benefits similar to citizens

However, PR holders cannot vote.

Who Can Apply for PR?

  • Skilled Professionals – Individuals who have been employed legally in Malaysia for over 5 years
  • High Net-Worth Investors – Those who maintain a deposit of USD 2 million (~₹17.4 crore) in a Malaysian bank for 5 years
  • Experts – Professionals with recognised expertise in fields like medicine, science, technology, or the arts
  • Spouses of Citizens – Indians married to Malaysian nationals, after completing 5 years of residence
  • MM2H Visa Holders – Participants of the Malaysia My Second Home program, offering eligibility after 10 years of residence

Application Process

  1. Verify eligibility and gather required documents such as passport, proof of employment or investment, marriage certificate, and recommendation letters.
  2. File the application at the Malaysian Immigration Department or local district office.
  3. Pay processing fee of RM 500 (~₹10,400).
  4. Wait for assessment (2–5 years).
  5. If approved, pay PR entry fee of RM 1,500 (~₹31,200) and get a MyPR card.
