India has continued to demonstrate resilience amid an uncertain global economic environment, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In its July bulletin, the central bank stated that the country remains among the fastest-growing major economies in the world.

Economic activity maintained momentum through June, supported by steady performance across the industrial and services sectors. The RBI also highlighted favourable trade trends, improving liquidity conditions and continued investor confidence in the economy.

RBI July Bulletin Highlights India's Economic Growth Momentum

The RBI noted that domestic economic activity remained robust despite global challenges such as supply chain disruptions and fragmented trade relationships. Both industrial and services sector indicators remained firm through June, reflecting healthy demand conditions across the economy.

The central bank stated that India has successfully navigated external uncertainties while sustaining growth momentum. This performance has helped the country maintain its position among the fastest-growing major economies globally.

India's Exports and Imports Growth Supports Economic Activity

According to the RBI, external trade momentum remained strong during Q1 FY27, supported by high growth in both exports and imports. The central bank said the outlook for trade could strengthen further following the operationalisation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

Progress in other bilateral trade agreements is also expected to support trade activity. The RBI added that external sector indicators remained sound despite ongoing global economic uncertainties.

RBI Sees Stable Inflation Outlook Despite Uneven Monsoon

The farm sector is currently experiencing an uneven southwest monsoon, according to the central bank's assessment. However, the RBI noted that the potential impact on food inflation may be mitigated by comfortable foodgrain stock levels.

Headline retail inflation edged higher in June, while core inflation, excluding precious metals, remained low. The central bank's observations indicate that food supply conditions continue to play an important role in the inflation outlook.

Foreign Investment Inflows Improve India's External Sector Outlook

The RBI stated that foreign investment trends have shown signs of improvement in recent months. Gross and net foreign direct investment (FDI) during April-May 2026 were higher compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

Net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) flows turned positive in June and continued to remain positive in July, supported by policy measures and easing geopolitical tensions. The central bank also noted that India's key external vulnerability indicators remained well anchored as of March 31, 2026.

Conclusion

The RBI's July bulletin highlighted India's resilience in maintaining economic momentum despite a challenging global backdrop. Strong industrial and services sector activity, healthy trade performance and improving foreign investment flows supported overall growth.

While the uneven monsoon poses some risks to the agricultural sector, comfortable foodgrain stocks may help moderate food inflation pressures. The central bank also emphasised that India's external sector and vulnerability indicators remain stable, reflecting continued confidence in the economy.
