RBI Conducts Workshop on Digital and Cyber Frauds for Banks

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted a two-day workshop on Digital and Cyber Frauds on February 24 and 25, 2026, at its Central Office in Mumbai.
The programme brought together Executive Directors and Heads of Fraud Risk Management from 60 major banks, reflecting the regulator’s proactive approach toward strengthening financial system security.
The initiative forms part of RBI’s ongoing supervisory and developmental engagement with banks to address the rising incidence and sophistication of cyber-enabled financial frauds.
Participation from Key Stakeholders
Senior officials from multiple institutions participated in the workshop, including representatives from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Maharashtra Cyber Police, commercial banks, and urban co-operative banks. The collaboration highlighted the importance of coordinated action between regulators, law enforcement agencies, and financial institutions.
Such multi-agency participation aims to enhance information sharing and improve response mechanisms against emerging cyber threats.
Focus on Governance and Technology
During the sessions, RBI emphasized the need for robust governance frameworks, effective oversight mechanisms, and strong internal controls within banks. Participants discussed structured processes and the adoption of advanced technologies to detect, prevent, and mitigate cyber-enabled frauds.
The workshop also underlined the importance of real-time monitoring systems, risk management practices, and technology-driven fraud detection tools to counter increasingly complex digital threats.
Customer Awareness and Best Practices
Banks were encouraged to conduct focused customer awareness campaigns to educate users about safe digital banking practices. Select banks showcased best practices and innovative technological solutions implemented to strengthen fraud prevention systems.
The event concluded with an open-house discussion, allowing participants to share feedback, operational challenges, and suggestions for improving cyber resilience across the banking ecosystem.
