RBI Cancels Registration of 59 NBFCs Across Multiple States in India

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the Certificates of Registration (CoR) of 59 Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) under Section 45-IA(6) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The cancellation orders were issued between June 1, 2026 and July 28, 2026, as per RBI press release.
Following the regulatory action, the affected entities are no longer permitted to transact the business of a non-banking financial institution. The companies are spread across West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat and Telangana, with a significant number registered in Kolkata and Mumbai.
Why Did the RBI Cancel the Registration of 59 NBFCs?
The RBI exercised its powers under Section 45-IA(6) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, to cancel the Certificates of Registration of the listed companies.
A valid Certificate of Registration is required for an entity intending to operate as an NBFC in India. After the cancellation of the CoR, these companies cannot transact the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution as defined under clause (a) of Section 45-I of the RBI Act, 1934.
The RBI press release does not provide individual reasons for the cancellation of each company. Therefore, no specific reason should be attributed to any particular entity beyond the regulatory action stated in the official announcement.
