The holiday schedule applies to both public and private sector banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and other scheduled banks. However, not all holidays will be observed nationwide, as several are state-specific.

Digital Banking Services Will Continue

While bank branches will remain closed on the notified dates, customers can continue using digital banking services without interruption. Internet banking, mobile banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), ATMs and other online payment services will remain operational throughout the month.

Bank holidays are notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with RBI guidelines and state government notifications. Since several holidays are regional, customers should verify the holiday schedule applicable to their state before planning branch visits.

Conclusion

With banks remaining closed for up to nine days in August 2026, customers are advised to plan important banking transactions in advance. Although digital banking services will continue to function normally, branch-based services such as cash deposits, cheque clearance and document processing may be affected on the notified holidays. Checking the RBI holiday calendar for your state can help avoid last-minute inconvenience.
