On September 11, 2026, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced its decision to conduct Open Market Operations (OMO) sale auctions of Government of India securities, as per the press release.

This move involves a total of ₹1,00,000 crore, divided into 3 tranches, scheduled for September 2026.

Details of the OMO Sale Auctions

The RBI will conduct OMO sale auctions in 3 tranches: ₹50,000 crore on September 17, 2026, ₹25,000 crore on September 21, 2026, and ₹25,000 crore on September 28, 2026. The auctions will use a multi-security auction format with the multiple price method.

The securities offered for sale on September 17, 2026, include various Government of India securities with different maturity dates, such as 7.59% GS 2029 maturing on March 20, 2029, and 6.79% GS 2029 maturing on December 26, 2029.

Submission and Auction Process

Eligible participants are required to submit their bids electronically through the RBI's E-Kuber system between 9:30 am and 10:30 am on September 17, 2026. In case of system failure, physical bids may be submitted to the Financial Markets Operations Department by 10:30 am.

The RBI reserves the right to decide on the quantum of sale for individual securities, accept bids for less than the aggregate amount, and sell marginally higher or lower than the aggregate amount due to rounding-off. The RBI may also accept or reject any or all bids either wholly or partially without providing reasons.
