Railway Ticket Checks to Get Stricter from October 1, 2026; Passengers Asked to Carry ID Proof

Central Railway will start an intensive ticket checking drive across its trains and stations from October 1, 2026, as per The Economic Times report. The drive will continue until October 31, 2026.
Passengers have been advised to keep their identity proof with them, especially those travelling on concession tickets, reserved quotas, passes, or shared tickets.
ID Proof Required During Ticket Checks
When one ticket is used by more than one passenger, at least one passenger must carry valid ID proof at the time of checking. This applies to both regular-fare and concession tickets.
If the required ID cannot be produced, passengers travelling on the same ticket may be treated as travelling without a valid ticket and could face action or a fine under railway rules.
E-Pass and PTO Holders Face Checks
The checking will also cover passengers travelling through railway benefits such as E-Pass and PTO.
Railway staff and their families using these facilities will need to carry their original ID during the journey. They must also ensure that the E-Pass or PTO has been properly converted into the required authority to travel before boarding.
Unreserved Tickets Also Under Scrutiny
Central Railway will check unreserved tickets as well. If railway staff have doubts about a ticket, they can use the TTE app to verify it.
The checking drive is aimed at preventing misuse of reservation facilities, concessions and passes, as well as the use of forged or altered tickets. Passengers have been advised to carry their ID and make sure their ticket, and travel documents are in order before travelling.

Conclusion
Central Railway's ticket checking drive will run from October 1 to October 31, 2026, across trains and stations in the zone. Passengers, particularly those using shared tickets, concessions, E-Pass or PTO facilities, should carry the required ID proof and documents during their journey to avoid problems during ticket checks.
