Pune’s public transport network is set for a major upgrade with the Union Cabinet approving Metro Line 4 (Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug). Covering 31.636 km with 28 elevated stations, this marks the second major project under Phase-2 of Pune Metro.
The corridors will link major commercial hubs, IT parks, educational institutions, industrial zones, and thick residential clusters across East, South, and West Pune. Line 4 and 4A will intersect with existing and upcoming metro routes at Kharadi Bypass, Nal Stop, and Swargate, while also offering interchange at Hadapsar Railway Station.
These lines will connect seamlessly with future extensions toward Loni Kalbhor and Saswad Road, strengthening multimodal connectivity across metro, rail, and bus systems.
The project will be completed within five years at a cost of ₹9,857.85 crore, jointly funded by the central and state governments and multilateral agencies. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) will execute all civil, electrical, mechanical, and system-related works. Pre-construction steps, including surveys and design activities, are already in progress.
Daily ridership on both lines is projected at 4.09 lakh in 2028, rising to nearly 7 lakh in 2038 and over 11.7 lakh in 2058. The Kharadi–Khadakwasla corridor will contribute the most passengers, while the Warje spur line will also witness significant long-term growth.
