The Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) until August 15, 2025.

The ongoing door-to-door awareness and enrolment campaign, led by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, aims to reach all eligible pregnant and lactating women to ensure timely registration under the scheme.

Objectives and Benefits of PMMVY

PMMVY provides financial assistance to support nutritious diets and improve health-seeking behaviour among Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM). It also promotes positive attitudes towards the girl child.

For the first live birth, eligible women receive a cash incentive of ₹5,000 in two instalments. For the second girl child, ₹6,000 is provided in a single instalment as per Mission Shakti Scheme Guidelines. The financial support acts as partial compensation for wage loss, helping mothers rest and recover both before and after delivery.

Massive Reach and Direct Transfers

Since its launch, the scheme has benefited over 4.05 crore women, with maternity benefits worth ₹19,028 crore disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their Aadhaar-seeded bank or post office accounts, as of July 31, 2025.

Technology-Driven Implementation

PMMVY is implemented through PMMVYSoft, a digital platform introduced in March 2023. It ensures Aadhaar authentication, NPCI verification, and secure DBT payments. Enhancements like a multi-lingual toll-free helpline (14408), Facial Recognition System (FRS) for biometric verification, and an Integrated Grievance Module have been introduced for better accessibility and grievance redressal.

Conclusion

With the extended registration drive, the government aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes nationwide. The use of digital tools and grassroots outreach is helping PMMVY reach more mothers, ensuring healthier beginnings for India’s next generation.
