Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched projects worth about ₹36,000 crore in Purnea district of Bihar on Monday, as per news reports. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, union ministers, state ministers, MPs and MLAs were present.
A new terminal building at Purnea Airport was inaugurated. The Prime Minister also flagged off the first flight on the Purnea-Kolkata route.
The foundation stone was laid for a thermal power plant at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur. The project, worth ₹25,000 crore, has a planned capacity of 3x800 MW. It will be built with ultra-supercritical, low-emission technology.
Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project was launched. The project, costing more than ₹2,680 crore, involves desilting, rebuilding damaged structures, and increasing canal discharge capacity from 15,000 to 20,000 cusecs. It will cover districts in northeastern Bihar.
Foundation stones were laid for several railway projects. A rail line between Bikramshila and Katareah, worth ₹2,170 crore, will provide direct connectivity across the Ganga. Modi also inaugurated the Arariya–Galgalia rail line, built at a cost of ₹4,410 crore.
The Prime Minister flagged off a train on the Araria-Galgalia (Thakurganj) section, improving connectivity between Araria and Kishanganj. He also launched the Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express. 2 Amrit Bharat Express trains, Saharsa-Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani-Erode, were also introduced.

Ceremonies were held for 35,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin and 5,920 under the urban scheme. Around ₹500 crore was given to cluster-level federations under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Bihar included projects across energy, railways, irrigation, housing, and rural development with investments totalling around ₹40,000 crore.
