PM Modi Urges States to Build Global-Level Tourist Spots, Sets Vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047

At the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged every Indian state to develop at least one global-standard tourist destination. He emphasised that doing so would enhance India's tourism profile and create significant local economic opportunities. 

States Asked to Create World-Class Tourist Destinations 

Addressing the meeting, PM Modi called on state governments to build at least one global-level tourist spot each. "The G20 summit brought global attention to India. States should use this momentum to attract international visitors," he said. The Prime Minister believes India can develop 25–30 such destinations nationwide. 

‘Viksit Bharat’ Requires Joint Efforts by States 

Reiterating the central theme of the meeting, Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat by 2047, PM Modi said development must not be limited to the Centre. “Every state, every city, every village must move forward together,” he said. He added that the aspiration for a developed India is shared by 140 crore citizens, not just any political party. 

Focus on Investment, Manufacturing and Skills 

PM Modi urged states to capitalise on recent trade agreements and foreign investor interest. “Leverage your manufacturing strengths,” he told the Chief Ministers. He also stressed the need for modern skill development aligned with emerging technologies such as AI, semiconductors, and green energy. A ₹60,000 crore skilling initiative has been launched by the Centre. 

Urban Growth, Green Energy and Women Empowerment Prioritised 

Calling urbanisation a major growth engine, Modi announced a ₹1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund to promote sustainable cities, especially Tier 2 and 3. He pushed for public and private sector reforms to support working women, emphasising India’s growing Nari Shakti. He also urged interlinking rivers within states to manage water scarcity and floods. 

Agriculture and Health Delivery in Focus 

In agriculture, the Prime Minister spoke of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, where 2,500 scientists will engage with rural communities on topics like crop diversification and organic farming. He also urged states to expand telemedicine services and ensure readiness for any future COVID-like challenges.

NITI Aayog to Review State Suggestions  

The meeting saw participation from Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of 24 states and 7 Union Territories. Several best practices were shared across domains such as digitalisation, governance, education, and women empowerment. PM Modi directed NITI Aayog to study all state-level suggestions and incorporate them into the long-term national vision.

Calling the 10th Governing Council Meeting a milestone, PM Modi said such forums have proven instrumental in collaborative nation-building and will play a vital role in shaping India’s development roadmap for 2047.
