Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the powerful role of India's automobile industry in bolstering the Make-in-India initiative. Highlighting its global impact, he noted the sector’s focus on sustainable technologies and green mobility as key drivers of economic growth and innovation.
Addressing the 65th Annual SIAM Convention, PM Modi underlined the auto industry’s pivotal contribution to India's manufacturing excellence and global competitiveness. India, currently ranked 3rd in passenger vehicle (PV) markets and 1st in 2-wheeler markets worldwide, serves as a testament to its advanced manufacturing capabilities. The Prime Minister emphasised that the industry enhances quality of life and national mobility infrastructure.
PM Modi highlighted the sector’s shift towards cleaner and smarter transportation alternatives. Emphasis was laid on electric vehicles (EVs), green technologies and innovation in sustainable mobility. While EV adoption varies across segments, 3-wheeler EVs lead with over 62% market share, followed by 2-wheelers at around 8%, PVs at 5% and commercial vehicles (CVs) below 2%.
The Prime Minister stated that visionary reforms and policy frameworks are transforming India’s transport ecosystem. As world-class infrastructure integrates with cutting-edge automotive technology, it lays the foundation for a future-ready and sustainable mobility landscape. This development is crucial for achieving India’s clean mobility goals.
