Odisha Sees ₹90,000 Crore Railway Investment Across Ongoing Projects

Railway Projects reportedly worth over ₹90,000 crore are currently under execution in Odisha, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. As per a PIB report, the projects include new lines, track doubling, and upgrades to existing routes.
The volume of work underway points to a rise in project activity, with multiple stretches being taken up at the same time across the state.
Funding Allocation
The railway budget allocation for Odisha stands at ₹10,928 crore. This is higher than earlier allocations and is being used to fund ongoing construction and expansion.
Higher spending has allowed work on several projects to progress simultaneously, particularly those that were earlier moving in stages.
Station Redevelopment Work
A total of 59 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The work includes changes to station buildings, passenger areas and basic facilities.
Bhubaneswar Railway Station is among the sites under redevelopment. The project involves capacity expansion and changes to improve passenger flow within the station.
Coverage Across Districts
Plans are in place to extend rail connectivity to all 30 districts of Odisha. This involves adding new links to areas that are not currently connected to the rail network.
The expansion is to link interior districts with existing routes, allowing easier movement of passengers and goods.
Coastal Corridor Proposal
A 4-line rail corridor between Balasore and Berhampur has been proposed along the coastal belt. The route carries both passenger and freight traffic.
Additional lines on this stretch are expected to ease congestion and increase the number of trains that can be handled on the route.
