Northern Railway Launches OTP-Based Luggage Lockers at Four Delhi Stations

Northern Railway has introduced self-operated luggage lockers at four major railway stations in Delhi, as per news reports. Passengers can use the lockers to leave their bags at the station for a chosen period and collect them later.
New Delhi (NDLS), Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM), Delhi Junction (DLI) and Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT) are the four stations where the lockers have been planned.
For now, the service has started at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The other two will open shortly.
Lockers to Remain Open 24x7
The lockers at New Delhi station are in the Main Hall, near Platform No. 16, below the digital display board. At Hazrat Nizamuddin, passengers will find them near the main entrance gate, next to the staircase.
Both locations will remain open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, according to station officials.Northern Railway said the lockers have been placed keeping available space, accessibility and security in mind.
Tourists and passengers who have several hours between trains are among those expected to use them.
Booking Does Not Require Railway Staff
There is no counter booking involved. A passenger enters a mobile number on the screen next to the lockers and confirms it with an OTP sent to the same number.
The screen then shows the choice of locker size and storage period. Once these are selected, payment has to be completed before the bag is put inside the locker.
Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe are among the digital payment methods available.
Another OTP Required While Collecting Bags
For collection, the passenger enters the mobile number used at the time of booking. A fresh OTP is sent for verification. The locker opens after the passenger chooses the ‘Release’ option.
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, chief public relations officer of Northern Railway, said passengers can use the lockers instead of carrying heavy luggage during a long wait or while going outside the station.
