With the surge in passenger movement during Diwali and Chhath festivities, the North Eastern Railway (NER) has launched a record 145 special puja trains to accommodate the rising travel demand.

The trains will continue to operate until all passengers have returned after the Chhath festival, ensuring smoother travel and crowd management across key stations.

Record Passenger Movement and Safety Measures

According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NER, 95 of the 145 special trains originate from the North Eastern zone. “Keeping in mind the Diwali and Chhath festivals, special arrangements have been made for passengers. Nearly 2 lakh people travelled in the last 24 hours,” Singh told ANI.

NER has implemented extensive crowd control plans at major stations, including dedicated holding areas, enhanced lighting, train display boards, public address systems, RO water facilities, and additional security deployment to ensure passenger safety.

Special Arrangements Across Other Zones

Similarly, the North Western Railway has arranged 44 pairs of special trains connecting high-demand destinations such as Mumbai, Pune, Howrah, and Bihar, with extra coaches and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel deployed at major hubs like Jaipur to manage the festive rush.

“We have added 174 coaches to nearly 60 regular trains and are prepared to operate more special services if needed,” said Captain Shashi Kiran, CPRO of North Western Railway.

Curbing Misinformation on Social Media

The Indian Railways has also announced strict action against social media handles spreading misleading videos about operations during the festive season. Over 20 accounts have been identified, and FIRs are being filed against those causing unnecessary panic.

A 24/7 monitoring team has been set up to track such content, while passengers have been urged to rely solely on verified handles such as @RailMinIndia on social media platforms for accurate updates.
