The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced significant progress on the e‑Shram portal, originally launched on August 26, 2021. The platform, designed to create a comprehensive national database of unorganised workers, now provides each registered worker with a unique UAN based on self‑declaration.
As of January 26, 2026, total registrations have crossed 31.48 crore. The Ministry stated that new integrations are expanding the portal into a central hub for accessing multiple welfare schemes.
The e‑Shram portal was introduced on August 26, 2021, with the objective of creating a National Database of Unorganised Workers covering various categories of informal labour. Workers are able to self‑register on the portal and receive a UAN for identification across social security programmes.
The platform was expanded further on October 21, 2024, under the Budget 2024–25 vision of building a single‑window solution for unorganised workers. This enhanced version allows workers to view eligible schemes and track benefits availed through the same portal.
The Ministry confirmed that 14 schemes from different Central Ministries and Departments have already been integrated with e‑Shram. These include PMSVANidhi, PMSBY, PMJJBY, MGNREGS and PMAY‑G, along with urban‑focused programmes such as PMAY‑U.
Health protection and livelihood initiatives like AB‑PMJAY, PMMSY and PM‑KISAN are also part of the integrated ecosystem. The mapping of these schemes enables improved access to welfare benefits for e‑Shram cardholders.
Beyond welfare schemes, e‑Shram has also been connected with several national‑level service platforms. The National Career Service is linked to job opportunities, enabling workers to explore employment options suitable to their skills.
The Skill India Digital Hub is integrated to support training and upskilling initiatives available to informal workers. Additionally, the platform now interfaces with PM‑SYM for pension benefits and with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ convergence portal.

The e‑Shram platform has evolved into a major national infrastructure for unorganised workers. Its expansion into a One‑Stop‑Solution reflects the government’s commitment to unified social security access.
With over 31.48 crore registrations, the ecosystem now integrates welfare, employment, skill development and pension services. This consolidation is expected to improve the reach and efficiency of social protection mechanisms for India’s informal workforce.
