The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to develop its proposed AI City in Lucknow as a fully green, sustainable technology hub, as per news reports.
The project aims to combine advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure with clean energy systems, aligning digital growth with environmental responsibility.
The AI City’s energy requirements, including those of data centres and high-performance computing facilities, will be met through renewable sources rather than conventional fuels.
Solar power installations will form the backbone of the energy supply, helping reduce carbon emissions while also lowering long-term operational costs. The state intends to position this approach as a model for future technology-driven developments.
Green hydrogen will play a central role in the project’s design, particularly for transportation systems, industrial processes and smart facilities within the AI City.
The government plans to deploy hydrogen-based solutions to support clean mobility and industrial operations, placing Uttar Pradesh among the leading states adopting hydrogen as a practical clean energy alternative.
Data centres within the AI City will be built in line with global environmental and energy-efficiency standards.
The emphasis on green energy-based digital infrastructure is expected to strengthen investor confidence, as global technology firms increasingly prioritise locations with clear sustainability roadmaps.
Green building norms will be mandatory across the AI City, with a focus on energy-efficient materials, optimal use of natural light and integrated water conservation systems.
Smart mobility solutions will be encouraged to reduce reliance on private vehicles and control pollution levels. Beyond technology, the state expects the project to generate local employment, improve environmental quality and deliver broader social and health benefits.
