Karnataka is preparing for a statewide bandh on August 13, 2026, orchestrated by Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, addressing inter-state water disputes, as per news report.  

Bengaluru and key border areas like Attibele will experience varied disruptions, with numerous organisations supporting the protest.

As per the news report, the protest focuses on long-standing inter-state water issues, notably the Mekedatu, Mahadayi, and Kalasa Banduri projects.  

With over 2,000 pro-Kannada organisations backing the bandh, significant attention is expected on August 13, 2026, when the shutdown is planned. In Bengaluru, hotel and business closures are expected as per Nagaraj's appeal, but regular city traffic continues.

• What’s Closed / Disrupted: Likely closures of hotels and commercial shops following the activists' appeal. Heavy disruptions and delays are anticipated for interstate buses, freight vehicles, and private commuters, especially at the Attibele border.
• What’s Open: Essential services like hospitals, pharmacies, and emergency services will function normally. Regular city traffic and general transport operations within Bengaluru are likely to continue running. 

Border Blockade at Attibele 

As per news reports, on Monday (August 10, 2026), Kannada activists blocked the Attibele border between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, halting vehicle movement. This affected interstate buses, freight vehicles, and private commuters.  

Travellers using this route anticipate delays and diversions due to the blockade. While Attibele faced significant disruption, other areas of Bengaluru ran normal operations.

Chief Minister's Appeal 

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar requested the withdrawal of the bandh, emphasising dialogue over disruption. However, Nagaraj rejected this plea, continuing with preparations for the extensive protest scheduled for August 13, 2026.
