Jio-bp has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with electric vehicle leasing platform DRIVN to explore ways of expanding charging infrastructure for commercial EVs in India, as per a PTI news report.

The partnership is aimed at electric buses and trucks, with the two companies looking at how charging access can be made more useful for fleet operators.

Charging Network to Be Linked with EV Leasing Platform

One of the areas under discussion is the integration of Jio-bp's charging network with DRIVN's leasing platform. This could include making charging locations easier for fleet drivers to find.

The companies will also explore preferential tariffs and turnkey charging projects in selected cities and along highways.

Commercial Fleets at the Centre

DRIVN Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer Alpna Jain said commercial EVs have different charging requirements because of the routes they operate on. She pointed to charger location and the route it serves as factors that can directly affect the operations of buses and trucks.

Jio-bp Chairman Sarthak Behuria said commercial fleets are an important part of India's shift towards electric mobility. He described charging infrastructure as critical to this transition.

Jio-bp CEO Akshay Wadhwa said the company is looking at the specific requirements of commercial fleets, including their routes, battery capacities and operating patterns. He also said the partnership will explore charging and financing solutions for fleet operators.

Projects to be Explored Across Cities and Highways

The MoU covers potential charging projects in identified cities and on highways. The companies will assess how their respective platforms and infrastructure can work together for commercial EV users.

No investment amount, number of charging stations, specific cities or highways, or rollout schedule has been announced as part of the MoU.
