Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, has inaugurated the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub in Uttar Pradesh and launched two new door-to-door logistics services aimed at reshaping India’s freight ecosystem.
The initiative represents a key milestone under the government’s Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals vision, designed to provide industries with efficient, cost-effective, and technology-driven transport solutions.
Located strategically 50 km from Lucknow and 20 km from Kanpur, the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub is the first of its kind in the country. Developed under the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals initiative, the facility is managed by the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and serves as a multi-service hub, offering warehousing, container stuffing and de-stuffing, and modern amenities for customers and workers alike.
The hub will handle critical freight categories, including fertilisers, cement, food grains, and tractors, ensuring seamless logistics for industries across the Kanpur–Lucknow industrial belt. Shri Vaishnaw emphasised that the initiative bridges a crucial gap between manufacturing units and railway loading points.
During the launch, Shri Vaishnaw also announced the commencement of two new logistics models, Assured Transit Container Train Service (ATCTS) and a Door-to-Door Parcel Service. The ATCTS, connecting Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, and Kolkata, promises guaranteed delivery within 120 hours and will operate twice a week.
Customers can choose between door-to-door, door-to-terminal, or terminal-to-door options via the CONCOR e-Logistics mobile app, making shipment tracking and coordination easier than ever.
The introduction of these logistics initiatives marks a major shift in Indian Railways’ approach, from a focus on bulk freight to containerised and parcel-based transport. By expanding multimodal connectivity and introducing technology-enabled logistics models, Indian Railways aims to reduce logistics costs, increase efficiency, and enhance competitiveness for Indian industries.
