Indian Railways Reports 77.11% Punctuality in FY27, Compared with 73.62% in FY24

Indian Railways recorded a punctuality rate of 77.11% in the current financial year up to the latest available reporting period, as per news reports. The rate was 77.43% in FY26 and 73.62% in FY24.
The ministry said the railway network continues to handle heavy passenger demand. It cited train monitoring, timetable changes, maintenance and infrastructure upgrades as measures being used to manage punctuality.
Indian Railways Punctuality Figures Since 2018-19
The punctuality rate stood at 69.2% in 2018-19 before rising to 73.62% in FY24. It increased further to 77.43% in FY26, while the figure for FY27 so far stands at 77.11%.
The ministry said punctuality has remained above 77% over the last three years, including the current financial year. The latest rate is 0.32 percentage points lower than the FY26 figure but remains above the level recorded in FY24.
Ministry Responds to Pandemic-Year Comparisons
The Ministry of Railways said some punctuality figures being shared on social media were being taken out of context. It said comparisons with the COVID-19 period did not account for the reduced number of trains operating at the time.
Punctuality figures were unusually high in 2020-21 and 2021-22, when services were running below normal capacity. The ministry said these figures should not be directly compared with performance during periods of regular operations.
After normal services resumed, punctuality returned closer to its long-term average before improving in subsequent years, the ministry said.
New Rail Lines and Services in Chhattisgarh
Separately, Indian Railways inaugurated the Tadoki-Raoghat and Abhanpur-Kurud broad-gauge rail lines in Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the event, while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined through video conferencing.
The Raoghat-Raipur and Raipur-Kurud passenger services were flagged off, and the foundation stone was laid for an electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur.
A train also reached Raoghat for the first time since independence, connecting the area in southern Chhattisgarh to the national rail network.
