On November 28, 2025, India and the United States entered a ₹7,995 crore agreement to provide comprehensive sustainment support for the Indian Navy's MH60R helicopter fleet over 5 years, under the US Foreign Military Sales programme.
The Ministry of Defence announced a crucial step towards enhancing operational efficiency of India’s naval aviation. India has signed Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the US for a 5-year sustainment support of the MH60R helicopters. The deal involves a financial commitment of ₹7,995 crore, ensuring uninterrupted functionality across the fleet.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi. Facilitated under the US Foreign Military Sales programme, the LOAs cover logistics, spares, training, product support, and technical assistance.
The sustainment package includes follow-on support and supply support for essential operational equipment. It also provisions repair and periodic maintenance infrastructure within India. These developments aim to reduce import dependency and align with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by encouraging domestic industry participation, especially MSMEs.
Additional facilities proposed under the deal include intermediate-level component repair centres and periodic maintenance inspection setups in India. This domestic build-up aims to maintain higher availability and efficiency of the all-weather helicopters.
The MH60R helicopters are equipped with Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities and are vital for India’s maritime security. This agreement not only maintains peak mission readiness but also ensures the fleet can be deployed from multiple ships and coastal facilities with enhanced efficiency.
