India exported 1.526 million barrels per day (bpd) of refined petroleum products in July 2026, according to The Economic Times news report citing shipping data from Kpler.
The volume was 27% higher than the average recorded over the previous 12 months. It was also the highest level for the month of July since Kpler started tracking the data in 2017. The increase came as Indian refiners shipped more diesel and other fuels to overseas markets.
Demand for Indian fuel strengthened as supplies from some major exporting regions remained limited. Russia continued to face disruptions to refinery operations following attacks on its refining infrastructure, while fuel exports from parts of West Asia were affected by geopolitical tensions.
Importers that usually bought fuel from these regions turned to alternative suppliers, including India.
Countries such as Turkey increased purchases of Indian fuel cargoes after Russian supplies became less available. Europe also remained an active buyer as the region continued to depend on imported diesel to meet domestic demand.
The rise in exports was supported by stronger diesel margins during the month. According to Kpler, restrictions on Russian diesel exports improved refining margins, making exports more attractive for Indian refiners.
Higher diesel prices in international markets also encouraged additional shipments, particularly to destinations facing supply shortages.
The changing trade pattern allowed Indian exporters to supply markets that had earlier relied on fuel from Russia and parts of West Asia.
Domestic refinery output also improved in July 2026. Crude oil cargoes that had been delayed during tensions involving Iran became available after a brief Iran-US truce, providing refiners with additional feedstock. Scheduled maintenance at major export-oriented refineries was also completed, allowing production to increase.
Reliance Industries, which accounts for around three-quarters of India's refined fuel exports, operated at higher processing levels after maintenance.
Nayara Energy, the country's other major fuel exporter, also increased shipments and reportedly exported fuel cargoes to Russia during the month.

Refined fuel exports from India increased in July as overseas demand and refinery throughput rose. The month also marked the highest July export volume recorded by Kpler since 2017.
