Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the UPI service at Galeries Lafayette, emphasizing its role in enhancing economic and technological cooperation between India and France.
The launch reflects the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations. Galeries Lafayette Nice Massena, located near Place Massena, offers over 600 brands, making it a prime location for this initiative.
In 2024, UPI was launched at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, marking the beginning of its expansion in France.
The introduction of UPI at Galeries Lafayette further extends its reach, showcasing India's capability to provide reliable and interoperable digital solutions on a global scale.
With this launch, UPI is now accepted in 9 countries, including Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia.
This expansion enables Indian travellers to conduct transactions abroad using familiar digital platforms.
