Union Minister Piyush Goyal has declared that India now provides round-the-clock renewable energy at globally unmatched rates. Addressing the 20th Global Sustainability Summit by CII, he highlighted India’s sustainability leadership among G20 nations and its strengthened energy infrastructure.

India Achieves Global Competitive Edge in Renewable Energy

India now delivers uninterrupted clean energy at record-low global prices, ranging between ₹4.60 and ₹5.00 per kWh. This pricing advantage is the outcome of critical reforms, including transparent bidding and domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative. The country has already achieved 50% installed renewable capacity and is on track to touch 500 GW by 2030.

National Grid Integration and Policy Measures

Piyush Goyal emphasised the success of the "One Nation, One Grid" framework, which enables seamless power distribution across the country. Through initiatives like UJALA, India replaced traditional bulbs with LED alternatives, reducing energy costs and consumption substantially since 2015.

Innovation, Self-Reliance, and Global Trade Expansion

India’s capability to supply affordable, 24x7 green energy aligns with its aspirations for self-reliant growth. Goyal highlighted the need for startups to engage in water conservation and energy-saving tech solutions. With robust domestic supply chains and strategic FTAs with countries like Australia and the UAE, India’s global trade standing is rising.

Sustainability Beyond Energy: Embracing Holistic Development

Goyal underlined that sustainability extends to effective water usage, tackling flash floods, and urban planning. Addressing textile waste and advocating for ocean cleanup were identified as untapped opportunities. The mantra of “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” was reiterated to push industries towards eco-conscious manufacturing.

Conclusion

India’s provision of 24/7 renewable energy at globally competitive rates marks a historic shift in accessibility and environmental responsibility. With a focus on innovation, infrastructure, and inclusivity, the country continues to lead G20 sustainability efforts and drive forward as a reliable energy economy.
