India, Armenia Sign Defence MoU for Research, Development and Shared Production

India and Armenia have signed an agreement on increasing their cooperation in the defence sector with areas of concern being research, development, innovation and joint production, as per ANI news report. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Yerevan on August 17, 2026. 

Defence MoU Covers Research and Production 

Rajesh Kumar Singh, India's Defence Secretary has signed the MoU with Davit Tadevosyan, Armenia's Minister of High Tech Industry. The Ministry of Defence stated that the agreement relates to areas of mutual interest and at expanding defence industrial cooperation between the two countries. 

The agreement was signed while Singh was in Armenia for a two-day visit. 

Singh Meets Armenian Defence Leadership 

On August 17 in Yerevan Singh also met Suren Papikyan, Armenia's Defence Minister, and the two of them talked about ways to strengthen defence cooperation between India and Armenia. 

Later on Singh met Edvard Asryan, who was the Chief of the General Staff of Armenia. The ministry stated that the talks once again focused on cooperation in the defence industry and on defence research and development. 

Nilakshi Saha Sinha, India's Ambassador to Armenia, went to the meeting with Papikyan. 

Visit Follows April Meeting in New Delhi 

On Sunday Singh reached Yerevan and was met by Ambassador Sinha together with some senior officials from the Armenian Defence Ministry. 

The trip came about as a result of a meeting which took place in New Delhi earlier this year. In April 2026 Lieutenant General Asryan met Singh to talk over bilateral defence cooperation. At that visit Asryan also met Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, who is the Chief of the Air Staff. 

The recent meetings in Yerevan keep up the defence talks between India and Armenia.

The India-Armenia defence cooperation framework now includes defence research, development, innovation and shared production, together with ongoing discussions between senior officials of the two countries.
