India and Poland to Expand Defence, Space and Technology Cooperation, Double Trade by 2030

India and Poland have set a target to double bilateral trade by 2030 and agreed to expand cooperation in defence, space and nuclear energy. The decisions were announced during Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s three-day visit to India from October 21 to 23, 2026.
The two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024. The latest discussions covered trade, investment, technology, and industrial cooperation.
Defence, Space and Industrial Cooperation
India has invited Polish companies to participate in the co-development and co-production of projects in defence, space and nuclear energy. Discussions also covered advanced defence systems, satellites, digitalisation and drone technology.
Other areas under consideration include mining, coal gasification, shipyards, and shipbuilding. India and Poland will also explore partnerships based on Polish expertise in critical minerals and coal gasification.
Tusk highlighted Poland’s drone capabilities during the discussions.
India-EU Trade Agreement and Investment
The India-EU free trade agreement is expected to create opportunities for Polish businesses trading in machinery, chemicals, plastics and engineering goods from India.
India is also seeking Polish investment in railways, mobility, advanced manufacturing, food processing and biotechnology. Both governments expect business engagement to support the expansion of trade and cooperation between companies in the two countries.
Tusk said economic cooperation formed the basis of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership. He also described the business delegation accompanying him as the largest of its kind in the history of bilateral relations.
Technology and Startup Initiatives
India and Poland have agreed to establish an India-Poland Startup Bridge and organise a bilateral hackathon. The initiatives will focus on fintech, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies.
The two countries already have ties in information technology and cybersecurity. The new initiatives are intended to extend cooperation in these areas.
