During his visit to Rabat on September 22, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh signed a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation with Morocco’s Defence Minister Abdeltif Loudiyi.

The agreement lays the foundation for deeper strategic engagement between the 2 countries, spanning defence industry, military training, joint exercises, and capacity building.

Scope of the Agreement

The Defence Ministry stated that the MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration. It covers cooperation in key areas such as counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, peacekeeping operations, military medicine, and the exchange of experts.

Both ministers committed to advancing defence industry ties under a detailed roadmap and agreed to expand armed forces exchanges, specialised training programmes, and co-development initiatives.

To accelerate the implementation of these initiatives, Rajnath Singh announced the opening of a new Defence Wing at the Embassy of India in Rabat. He highlighted India’s growing expertise in advanced defence technologies, including drones and counter-drone systems, and assured Morocco that Indian firms are well placed to support its defence requirements.

Strategic Significance

The meeting underscored the growing strategic alignment between India and Morocco. Both sides stressed the importance of enhancing multilateral cooperation to address shared security challenges and welcomed closer coordination in maritime domains spanning the Indian Ocean and Atlantic corridors.
