Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has announced a price increase for compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi, which will take effect from August 29, 2026, as per The Moneycontrol news report.

The new rate of ₹86.98 per kg reflects a rise of ₹3.89 from the previous cost, driven by heightened input costs due to increased LNG prices amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Price Increase Details

The updated price of CNG in Delhi now stands at ₹86.98 per kg, representing a ₹3.89 rise compared to earlier pricing. This adjustment follows a significant increase in input costs, mainly attributed to the hike in spot LNG prices.

IGL has indicated that a substantial portion of the gas used for CNG is imported, making the pricing subject to fluctuations in international markets.

Factors Behind the Price Hike

IGL's decision to revise the prices comes in response to escalating LNG costs, largely impacted by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

This geopolitical development has led to a surge in spot LNG prices, prompting adjustments in the domestic market.

The latest increase aims to mitigate the financial pressures from importing LNG at elevated international rates.

Impact on CNG-Powered Vehicles

The price hike is expected to affect the operating costs for CNG-powered vehicles across Delhi and nearby areas. This will impact private cars, taxis, and commercial transport relying on CNG as their primary fuel source. Commencing from 6 am on August 29, 2026, consumers have been advised to prepare for increased fuel expenses due to these adjustments.

Market Reactions

The revised pricing comes at a time when consumers are already facing challenges related to global energy markets. As a significant player in the city’s fuel market, IGL's announcement plays a key role in directing consumer prices levied on CNG in the region.

As of August 28, 2026, at 3:30 PM, Indraprastha Gas share price on NSE was closed at ₹147.61, up by 0.30% from the previous closing price.

Conclusion

The price adjustment of ₹3.89 increases the cost of CNG in Delhi to ₹86.98 per kg. This change reflects rising LNG input costs amid geopolitical instability. CNG vehicle users in Delhi and surrounding areas will experience increased operational expenses.
