The Centre has revised the release date for India’s Provisional Annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates and fourth-quarter GDP data, as per PTI reports.
The figures, which were earlier published on the last working day of May, will now be released on June 7 every year. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) said that if June 7 is a holiday, the data will be issued on the previous working day.
The revised schedule will apply from the current financial year onwards.
Under the revised timeline, the National Statistics Office (NSO) will release provisional GDP estimates for FY2025-26 along with January-March quarter data on June 5, 2026.
The ministry said the decision was taken after discussions with the Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics (ACNAS). According to the statement, the revision is for improving the quality of data used in national income calculations.
Officials said several datasets required for GDP estimation become available only after a delay of up to 2 months, making the earlier timeline difficult to maintain.
MoSPI said listed companies are allowed up to 60 days from the end of the financial year to submit audited fourth-quarter and annual financial statements.
As a result, many companies file their results close to the May 31 deadline. The government indicated that this leaves limited time for the NSO to process and include the information while preparing GDP estimates.
The ministry also referred to delays in the availability of Central government fiscal data for March. These include revenue expenditure, capital expenditure, subsidies, tax collections, and interest payments.
According to the government, such figures are important for national accounts compilation and are finalised only after a 2-month lag.
MoSPI said the revised schedule forms part of plans to improve the coverage, consistency and robustness of official economic data.
The ministry added that the updated timeline is aligned with international practices followed in GDP estimation and national accounts preparation.

The change shifts the release of annual and fourth-quarter GDP estimates by about a week compared to the earlier schedule. The government said the additional time will allow more complete financial and fiscal data to be included in the estimates.
