In a strategic move to promote data-led infrastructure development and strengthen private participation, the Government of India has opened access to the PM Gati Shakti portal for the private sector.
The decision is expected to accelerate innovation in logistics, urban planning, and industrial development by giving companies and researchers access to detailed geospatial data for informed decision-making.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal officially launched the PM GatiShakti Public platform through the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI), designed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) and powered by the National Geospatial Data Registry (NGDR).
The move follows the success of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP), introduced in October 2021, which focuses on the integrated development of critical infrastructure and reduction of logistics costs.
The platform offers regulated access to 230 datasets, covering both physical and social infrastructure. Through it, users can conduct site suitability analysis, alignment planning, connectivity mapping, and generate analytical reports for infrastructure and logistics projects. These features enable data-backed project design, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, and better utilisation of national resources.
Access to the portal will be granted through self-registration under strict data security protocols to ensure confidentiality and regulatory compliance. Beyond logistics, the data can also aid agriculture, healthcare, disaster management, and public service delivery, supporting India’s broader vision of integrated and inclusive growth.
Minister Piyush Goyal also introduced several new digital initiatives under the PM GatiShakti framework, including the PM GatiShakti Compendium of best practices, the PMGS NMP Dashboard for performance monitoring, and the Knowledge Management System (KMS) to encourage cross-learning among ministries and state departments. Additionally, he launched PM GatiShakti Offshore, focused on offshore infrastructure planning, and the Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS) to enhance decentralised, real-time data management.

The inclusion of private stakeholders in the PM Gati Shakti initiative marks a major leap toward data-driven infrastructure governance. By making strategic data accessible to industries, the government is fostering collaboration, innovation, and efficiency, solidifying PM Gati Shakti as a cornerstone for India’s next-generation growth in logistics and infrastructure.
