Government Extends Export Relief Scheme Until March 2027

Indian exporters will get more time to use a government-backed relief scheme as shipping disruptions in West Asia continue to affect trade.
The Department of Commerce has extended the RELIEF initiative until March 31, 2027, giving eligible exporters continued access to risk cover for shipments to specified regions.
What the Extension Means for Exporters?
Under Component II, the government is encouraging exporters to obtain cover from the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India (ECGC) by offering 95% risk coverage. The benefit applies to eligible standalone and whole-turnover policies obtained on or after March 16, 2026.
Covered shipments include full container loads, less-than-container loads and refrigerated containers. Energy shipments are excluded.
Why the Scheme Matters?
The RELIEF initiative was launched on March 19, 2026, as exporters faced mounting costs and uncertainty linked to disruptions in the Gulf and the wider West Asian maritime corridor.
For businesses shipping goods through affected routes, insurance and freight expenses can add pressure at a time when delivery schedules and logistics costs are already difficult to manage. The extension keeps the support available for eligible shipments for several more months.

How to Apply?
Exporters seeking cover must submit claims and supporting documents through the ECGC customer portal at "ecgc ltd.in" (https://www.ecgc.in/). The government has also pointed exporters to ECGC’s video tutorials for help with registration and claim submission.
Conclusion
The extension keeps the RELIEF scheme in place until March 31, 2027. For eligible exporters, the 95% risk cover offers continued support as uncertainty around regional shipping and logistics persists.
