Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon to work jointly on course material, research activity and data exchange.

The arrangement formalises cooperation in areas linked to logistics and transport, where both institutions operate at scale in different capacities.

Focus on Warehousing Studies

As per PIB, the major component of the MoU is the plan to establish an Amazon Chair Professorship at GSV. The role will study warehousing systems using data-based methods, examining layout decisions, throughput, and other operational factors.

The position is intended to support structured research in a sector that has expanded alongside India’s growing logistics demand.

Background of GSV

GSV was set up in 2022 as a Central University through an Act of Parliament. It works under the Ministry of Railways and covers the full transport chain, including railways, highways, aviation, ports, maritime activity, shipping, inland waterways, urban transport and supply chain networks.

The university’s Chancellor is Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also holds ministerial responsibilities across Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT.

Work Across Curriculum and Research

Under the MoU, GSV and Amazon will contribute input to curriculum units tied to logistics and transport, along with working on joint studies.

The collaboration includes access to operational insights from Amazon and research support from university faculty. Areas marked for joint work include warehousing processes, supply chain planning and transport system analysis.

Sector Context for the Partnership

India’s logistics sector has grown steadily, supported by e-commerce penetration and continued investment in transport networks.

This expansion has increased the need for trained talent and research-led frameworks that can support planning and operations across the supply chain.

Conclusion

The agreement sets out a structured plan for shared research, curriculum development and data-oriented studies. It positions GSV and Amazon to work together on topics relevant to India’s transport and logistics systems.
