If you're a regular commuter on India’s National Highways, there’s a major change in toll payments beginning August 15, 2025. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new FASTag-based annual toll pass designed to make travel more convenient and cost-effective for private vehicle owners.

What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass costs ₹3,000 and is valid for one year or 200 toll-free trips, whichever comes first. It applies to non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans and will be accepted at designated toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways.

However, regular FASTag charges will still apply on State Highways, state-managed expressways, and roads maintained by local bodies.

Where and How to Activate the FASTag Annual Pass?

You can activate the FASTag annual pass through:

  • The Rajmargyatra mobile app
  • The official NHAI website

Steps to Activate:

  1. Log in with your registered mobile number, vehicle registration number, and FASTag ID.
  2. The system will verify your eligibility based on vehicle type and your current FASTag status.
  3. Once verified, you can pay the ₹3,000 fee using UPI, debit/credit card, or internet banking.
  4. The pass becomes active within two hours, and you’ll get a confirmation via SMS or email.

Important Terms and Conditions

  • The pass is non-transferable and is only valid for the vehicle linked to the registered FASTag.
  • You do not need to buy a new FASTag; the pass will be activated on your existing one.
  • Once the 200 trips or one-year limit is reached, the FASTag will revert to regular usage. Users can reapply for the annual pass through the same process.

Why It Matters

This move is aimed at simplifying toll collection and reducing waiting time at toll booths for frequent travellers. It could lead to lower overall toll costs for those who regularly use National Highways, especially on long-distance or daily intercity routes.

Conclusion

The new FASTag annual pass is a welcome initiative by NHAI to ease travel for private vehicle owners. With easy activation via the Rajmargyatra app or NHAI website and 200 toll-free trips included, it’s an attractive option for frequent highway users.
