Global renewable energy leader ENGIE has secured a 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Barmer, Rajasthan, from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project, located in one of India’s highest solar irradiance regions, will be commissioned in 2027 and marks another major step in ENGIE’s mission to accelerate India’s clean energy transition.
With this addition, the company’s solar footprint in Rajasthan moves closer to 1 GW, reaffirming its long-term commitment to sustainable energy generation.
The announcement follows the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between ENGIE and SECI. The Barmer project is set to supply reliable solar power to meet the growing electricity demand in the region while supporting India’s renewable energy ambitions.
As per the news reports, Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager – India MD Renewables & Batteries (India & South-East Asia), stated, “Our agreement with SECI marks a pivotal chapter in ENGIE’s growing partnership in India and reflects our shared ambition to accelerate the country’s clean energy transition. The Barmer project is focused on delivering dependable solar power to a region where rising energy demand and economic growth go hand in hand.”
The project represents not only a commercial expansion but also a strategic investment in India’s sustainable infrastructure. ENGIE aims to deliver dependable, scalable, and affordable solar energy solutions while adhering to the highest environmental and operational standards.
ENGIE has built a strong reputation for execution excellence across India’s renewable energy landscape. Its 200 MW Raghnesda Solar Power Plant in Gujarat, commissioned amid the pandemic, continues to deliver uninterrupted clean power.
Similarly, the 250 MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh utilises advanced inverter technology to optimise power generation, while the 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan has set new benchmarks for desert-based operations with robotic, water-free cleaning systems.
Across India, ENGIE’s renewable portfolio now stands at 2.5 GW, spanning 23 projects across seven states. Of this, more than 300 MW is located in Rajasthan alone, making the state one of the company’s key operational hubs.
