The Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0 has recorded strong early adoption, with more than 4.11 lakh guarantees issued since its launch and the total guaranteed amount crossing ₹1.55 lakh crore, as per ANI news reports.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the scheme has primarily supported Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing liquidity during a period of global uncertainty.
The ministry said 4,11,497 guarantees have been issued under ECLGS 5.0, taking the guaranteed amount to ₹1,55,229 crore.
MSMEs account for 98% of all guarantees issued by number and 82% of the total value of funds sanctioned under the programme, highlighting the sector's dominant share in the scheme.
Approved by the Union Cabinet on 5 May 2026, ECLGS 5.0 was introduced as a temporary credit facility to help businesses manage cash-flow disruptions arising from the geopolitical situation in West Asia.
The scheme offers 100% guarantee coverage on additional loans extended to MSMEs and 90% coverage for other business categories, enabling lenders to extend credit with greater confidence.
To improve awareness and implementation, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) launched a multi-phase outreach campaign.
The first phase, conducted between 20 May and 6 June 2026, covered nine locations through State Level Bankers' Committees (SLBCs) with participation from the NCGTC, PSB Alliance, banks and industry associations.
The second phase is currently underway across 10 additional locations, with four regional drives already completed.
