The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for a series of major capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹3.60 lakh crore on February 12, 2026. The approvals span the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, with a clear focus on capability enhancement and indigenisation.

Indian Air Force

For the Indian Air Force (IAF), AoN has been accorded for the procurement of Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA), identified as Rafale jets, along with advanced Combat Missiles and an Air-Ship Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (AS-HAPS).

The induction of MRFA will significantly strengthen the IAF’s ability to undertake air dominance missions across the spectrum of conflict. It will also enhance long-range precision strike capabilities and reinforce deterrence. Notably, the majority of the aircraft are planned to be manufactured in India, providing a boost to domestic defence production.

The approved Combat Missiles will enhance stand-off ground attack capability, offering deep-strike precision with high accuracy. Meanwhile, the AS-HAPS platform will enable persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Electronic Intelligence, telecommunications and remote sensing support for military operations.

Indian Army

For the Indian Army, AoN has been granted for the procurement of Anti-Tank Mines (Vibhav) and the overhaul of vehicle platforms for Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs), T-72 tanks and BMP-II Infantry Combat Vehicles.

The Vibhav anti-tank mines will serve as an effective obstacle system to delay or disrupt the advance of enemy mechanised forces. At the same time, the overhaul of ARVs, T-72s and BMP-IIs aims to extend their service life, improve reliability and ensure sustained operational readiness and combat effectiveness.

Indian Navy

In the naval domain, AoN has been cleared for a 4 MW Marine Gas Turbine-based Electric Power Generator and additional P-8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft.

The induction of the 4 MW generator under the Make-I category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 is expected to reduce dependency on foreign manufacturers and strengthen self-reliance in naval power generation systems.

The acquisition of P-8I aircraft will significantly enhance the Navy’s long-range anti-submarine warfare capabilities, maritime surveillance reaches and maritime strike potential, thereby strengthening its overall war-fighting capability.

Indian Coast Guard

For the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), AoN has been accorded for the procurement of Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) systems for its Dornier aircraft.

These systems will improve surveillance efficiency and maritime domain awareness, strengthening coastal security operations and response capabilities.
